Scaled a read-only pattern across 41 routes
Designed a reusable permission experience across 41 Terraform settings and configuration routes, creating a consistent way for users to understand what they could view versus modify.
During my Product Design internship at IBM, I worked on Terraform’s role-based access control experience, exploring how complex system behavior could be translated into clear, predictable experiences for enterprise users. My work spanned product design, user research, interaction design, prototyping, usability testing, and cross-functional collaboration within a highly technical product environment.
I designed for the space between having access and having control.
Enterprise products aren’t always as simple as whether someone can or can’t access something. Different users need different levels of visibility and control depending on their responsibilities. My work focused on understanding those differences and designing experiences that make what users can see, what they can change, and why easier to understand.
Designed a reusable permission experience across 41 Terraform settings and configuration routes, creating a consistent way for users to understand what they could view versus modify.
Developed a multi-segment research plan and tested concepts with 10+ recruited participants, internal and external, to understand how users review, investigate, and navigate complex enterprise systems.
Translated complex authorization behavior into reusable UX patterns informed by the needs of auditors, support engineers, and platform engineers, balancing usability with security and technical constraints.
